Increased Parking Capacity for Public Buses at Kualanamu International Airport, North Sumatra

Abstract

Kualanamu International Airport is one of the main airports in Indonesia, serving as the gateway for air transportation in the western region of Indonesia. The increasing number of bus users and public transportation fleets has resulted in the existing parking area no longer being able to optimally accommodate operational needs. This condition has the potential to cause vehicle congestion, increase passenger waiting times, and reduce the quality of ground transportation services in the airport area. This activity aims to increase the parking capacity of public bus transportation to support smooth operations, improve service quality, and strengthen the integration of multimodal transportation at Kualanamu International Airport. The implementation of activities includes field measurements, dismantling existing concrete, installing concrete reinforcement, concrete slump testing, casting, and completing the parking area. The results of the activity show that the parking capacity of public bus transportation has increased from 4 (four) parking spaces to 9 (nine) parking spaces through the addition of 5 (five) new parking spaces. This additional capacity has a positive impact on the smooth operation of ground transportation, increasing user comfort, reducing potential waiting times, and supporting intermodal connectivity in the airport area. Thus, increasing the parking capacity of public bus transportation is a strategic effort to improve the quality of land transportation services and support the sustainable development of Kualanamu International Airport.
