Abstract

Mangrove ecosystem rehabilitation is an important effort in restoring degraded coastal areas while supporting climate change mitigation by increasing the potential for carbon absorption and storage. This activity aims to support the restoration of the mangrove ecosystem in Sedari Village, Cibuaya District, Karawang Regency, and increase community involvement in coastal environmental management. The rehabilitation activity was carried out in August 2024 in the protected forest area of the Cibuaya RPH, BKPH Cikiong, and KPH Purwakarta, with an area of approximately 25 hectares. The implementation of the activity involved PT Adhi Karya (Persero) Tbk, BPDAS Citarum-Ciliwung, Perum Perhutani, and the Forest Village Community Institution (LMDH) Rimba Jaya. Rehabilitation was carried out through site preparation, delivery of Rhizophora sp. seedlings and stakes, and planting using an open ditch pond-type silvofishery pattern at a density of approximately 1,600 plants per hectare. The results of the activity showed the implementation of coastal area rehabilitation through mangrove planting and local community involvement in the implementation of the activity. This rehabilitation has the potential to support the restoration of coastal ecological functions, shoreline protection, enhanced biodiversity, and increased blue carbon reserves. This activity also provides opportunities for social and economic benefits for the community through involvement in the rehabilitation and development of coastal ecotourism potential. The program's sustainability requires regular maintenance and monitoring to ensure successful mangrove growth.
